MRS. M. C. BOND PASSES TO THE GREAT BEYOND. END CAME WEDNESDAY MORNING. After an illness extending over a period of several years, Mrs. M. C. Bond passed peacefully away at the family home here at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday morning. Although in poor health for a long time, she had been able to be about her home and assist in the work until quite recently. Two weeks ago she came down town with her husband in a car and made a short visit with friends. Ten days ago, however, she suffered another stroke of paralysis from which time she failed rapidly until the end. Fannie Burton was born in Springfield, Oregon, on January 2, 1871, and was therefore nearly 54 years old at the time of her death. She was married to M. C. Bond on June 14, 1893, at Springfield, and from this union three sons were born, two of whom are living, Guy B. Bond, of Portland, and Merle C. Bond at home. The second son, Lawrence, was accidentally killed when 14 years old while the family was residing at Coburg. Preceding her marriage, deceased attended the University of Oregon and the State Normal School at Monmouth, and taught school for several years. She was a member of the Baptist Church, the University of Oregon Alumni and the Sutherlin Lodge of Rebekahs, being Past Noble Grand of the local lodge and Past Representative to the Grand Lodge. She was a woman with a kind and sympahetic nature, friendly with all and a good neighbor and true friend, and during the twelve years which the family has resided in this city she endeared herself to a large circle of friends. Besides the husband and two sons, she leaves to mourn four sisters--Mrs. Ollie Avery of Sutherlin; Mrs. Mary Avery of Portland; Mrs. Carrie Farr of Portland, Mrs. Ethel Duane of Everett, Wash. Funeral service was conducted at the Presbyterian Church at eleven o'clock Thursday morning, there being a large attendance of friends from the vicinity and from out of town. Service ws conducted by Rev. Lamb. Members of the local Rekekah Lodge attended in a body and there was a profusion of beautiful floral offerings. The remains were taken to Coburg for burial beside the body of her son.2
The inscription on her grave marker reads: FANNIE BURTON BOND. 1871 1924.16,17

FATAL HUNTING ACCIDENT NEAR COBURG SATURDAY. Saturday evening about 5 o'clock Lawrence Melvin Bond, son of a merchant of Coburg, ages 14 years, was shot and instanly [sic] killled by Lee Smith, a youth of about the same age, as they were out goose hunting. the killing was accidental, and Coroner Gordon, who went to Coburg to investigate the matter, deemed it unnecessary to hold an inquest. Young Bond and Smith were in company with George Smith, father of Lee, George Drury and Professor Maxwell. They were all along the McKenzie river bottom, a mile west of the railroad bridge. The boys were ahead of the others and suddenly noticed a flock of geese. They crawled up to within shooting distance of the geese and both fired. Bond fired a second shot and suddenly arose, just in time to received the full charge of shot from young Smith's gun as he, too, fired a second shot. The shot entered the back of the head and death resulted two hours afterward. Young Bond was a bright lad and was liked by all who knew him. He was a pupil in the eighth grade of the school at Coburg. Young Smith naturally feels very badly over the accident. The funeral was held today and the body interred in the Coburg I.O.O.F. cemetery.8

About 1901 in Halsey, Oregon, she appeared in a photograph with Huldah Bond. Who was her grandmother.3
She appeared in the household of George Washington Bond on the 1905 state census in Halsey Precinct, Linn County, Oregon, on 5 April 1905. She was listed as Lela A. Bond, along with her parents, Charles and Minnie. Lela was 11, born in Oregon.4
She appeared on the 1910 U.S. census taken on 20 April 1910 in Halsey Precinct, Linn County, Oregon, in the household of her parents Charles and Minnie Bond.5
She married Herman D. Mitzner in Halsey area, Linn County, Oregon, on 7 September 1919.6 On September 11, 1919, the local newspaper, the Halsey Enterprise, ran the following story about their marriage. HERMAN MITZNER TAKES TO HIMSELF A WIFE. Last Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at the home of the bride and her sister, occurred the wedding of Miss Lela Bond and Herman Mitzner, Rev. Cain officiating. There were many guests present, and immediately after the ceremony ice cream and cake were served. The young coupld tried to steal away from their company to start on their wedding trip to Eastern Washington but it was of no use for they were followed in autos to Albany. Their suitcases were stolen as was also the groom's hat and coat. The rice that was strewn on them promiscuously would have fed a small family for an indefinite time had it been applied that way. The bride's bouquet was of beautiful red roses, and in lieu of a wedding cake with its prophetical superstitions, the bouquet was divided into three parts and thrown into the midst of the guests. Miss Beulah Miller got the part containing the button, which of course, is an infallible sign that she will die a spinster. Miss Bessie Bond got the part containing the dime. That sign is just as infallible as the other and so we can look for her to be rich woman... The portion of the bouquet containing the wedding ring fell to Miss Hazel Straley, and as the other two signs are infallible, so also is this one, and the Enterprise extends its congratutlations to Miss Straley on being the next bride among those who attended the wedding. Who the lucky man is to be the signs don't say....The bridal march was played by Miss Elepha Cummings... The bride wore a beautiful gown of white silk chiffon voile beaded in blue. The groom wore the conventional black (we suppose, if not black some other color) and a most happy time was enjoyed. The couple think they have dodged the charivariers but they may have another think or two coming on that line. They will make their future home on the Mitzner farm north of town. The Enterprise extends its congratulations.7
On 8 January 1920 Lela and Herman appeared on the 1920 U.S. census taken in East Halsey Precinct, Linn County, Oregon. Lela's sister Bessie Bond was living with them.8
Lela died on 23 October 1935 at age 41.1
