     In Starr's Point, Benton County, Oregon, she appeared on the 1870 U.S. census in the household of Washington Marcus Waltz on 6 August 1870.2
     She married Horace Clingman in Rockford, Spokane County, Washington Territory, on 20 April 1882.3,4
     In Fairfield Precinct, Spokane County, Washington, Irene and Horace appeared on the 1900 U.S. census taken on 11 June 1900. He was listed as Horace Clingman, a farmer, age 47, born May 1853 in California. She was shown as Irene Grace Clingman, wife, age 35, born Aug 1864 in Oregon. They had been married 18 years and she had no children. Their adopted daughter, Lillian Irene Clingman, age 10/12, born July 1899 in Washington was also in their household.5
     Irene and Horace appeared on the 1910 U.S. census taken in May 1910 in Moran Township, Spokane County, Washington. He was age 56, born in California, married for 29 years, a farmer on a home farm. She was age 45, born in Oregon and had no children. He was shown as Horace Clingman, farmer on truck farm, age 66, born in California. She was listed as Irene Clingman, wife, age 55, born in Oregon. Their adopted daughter, Lillian E. Clingman, age 20, born in Washington, was in their household.8
     In Peoria Precinct, Linn County, Oregon, Irene and Horace appeared on the 1930 U.S. census taken on 10 April 1930. He was enumerated as Horace Clingman, farmer on a general farm, age 76, born in California. She was shown as Irene Clingman, wife, age 65, born in Oregon.9 Irene became a widow at her husband's death on 27 September 1936.10,11
     Irene appeared on the 1940 U.S. census taken on 15 April 1940 at 1195 South 12th in Salem, Marion County, Oregon. She was a housekeeper in the private home of William B. Duncan, age 87. She was shown as Irene G. Clingman, age 75, born in Oregon, a widow, and had completed 8 grades of school. Her home in 1935 was Linn County, Oregon..12
     Irene died on 16 October 1955 in Salem, Marion County, Oregon, at age 91.13,1,14 The cause of her death was carcinoma of breast.13
     An obituary for Irene Grace Clingman was published in the Oregon Statesman, Salem, Oregon on 17 October 1955. It read:
Mrs. Clingman Succumbs to Short Illness. Mrs. Irene Grace Bond Clingman, 91, died Sunday in the Methodist Home after an illness of about a month. A Salem resident since 1939, she lived at the Home about 10 years. Mrs. Clingman was born Aug. 2, 1864, at Monroe. Her family moved in 1877 to Stevens County, Washington Territory, where she and Horace Clingman were married April 20, 1882. They lived on a farm near Fairfield, Wash., and later at Hatton, Wash; Spokane, Wash; and Shed, [sic] where Mr. Clingman died Sept. 27, 1936. A women's circle of the Shed Methodist Church is named after Mrs. Clingman. She also was a member of First Methodist Church in Salem. Mrs. Clingman leaves a daughter, Mrs. Lillian I. Arthur, Aumsville; two granddaughters, Mrs. Dorothy Miller, Aumsville, and Mrs. Barbara Fish, Salem; three great-grandchildren, Trudy Lynn, Kathleen and Richard Miller, Aumsville; and numerous nephews and nieces in Washington, Oregon and California. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the W. T. Rigdon chapel, and Rev. Brooks Moore officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, near Halsey.15
She was buried on 19 October 1955 in Pine Grove Cemetery, Halsey vicinity, Linn County, Oregon.15,16

Washington Marcus Waltz1

     Washington Marcus Waltz was born on 9 February 1830 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana.2,1
     He married Lucy Marion Child in Harmonia, Indiana, on 4 July 1853.2 Washington's child, Alonzo L. Waltz, died in 1857.2 Washington became a widower at his wife's death on 6 February 1865.2
     He married Talitha Cumy Bond in Starr's Point, Benton County, Oregon, on 10 August 1867.1 At the time of their marriage it is probable that the sons of William Bond (Talitha's deceased husband) had left the household, but William and Talitha's daughter was still there, as well as five of Talitha's other children from her first marriage. Washington would bring three sons to the household, for a total of nine children.3
     In Starr's Point, Benton County, Oregon, on 6 August 1870 Washington appeared on the 1870 U.S. census. Others in the household were his wife, Talitha, step-children: Moses, Anna, Mary and Ransom Starr and Irene Bond, and Washington's children: Harry, Samuel and Marcus.4
     Washington died on 6 January 1900 at age 69.1
