Their son James wrote a remembrance of their journey many years later, including the death of their oldest son, John, near Fort Bridger. Also on the trip was Riley's nephew, James England and his family and Riley's brother John.3
     John died on 20 July 1864 in Fort Bridger vicinity, Wyoming, at age 9.1,3

The agricultural section showed 6 acres of spring wheat producing 40 bushels; 9 acres of oats producing 315 bushels; 15 acres of corn producing 600 bushels; 1/4 acre potatoes producing 30 bushels; 6 hogs sold valued at $12; and 100 pound of butter.2

He was enumerated as Joseph Worley, age 39, born in Indiana, a farmer with $750 value real property and $375 personal property.
