Everett E. Carey, 96, of Halsey, died Sunday, October 11. Mr. Carey was born in Halsey in the farmhouse where he spent most of his life. He was the son of Wilson and Mary (Freeland) Carey. He attended Kirk Grade School and Halsey High School. In World War I, he served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Tallahassee, a submarine tender that was posted in the Atlantic and Caribbean. He married Rosa Bertha Seefeld March 10, 1921, in Albany. She died January 3, 1983. Mr. Carey was a lifelong farmer and the family farm has been designated a Century Farm. He was a member and served on the board of the Halsey Methodist Church. He also taught Sunday school and belonged to the church men's club. Mr. Carey was grand marshall for the 1989 Brownsville Pioneer Picnic Parade. He is survived by son Robert of Halsey; daughter Margaret Wildermuth of Gresham; sisters Mary Forry of Corvallis and Mildred Bilyeu of Harrisburg; and five grandchldren and eight great-grandchildren. Brothers Gilbert, Marion and Clifford and sister Edith Gillett died before him. Funeral services for Mr. Carey will be today, October 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Halsey Methodist Church. Fisher Funeral Home is handling arrangements.4
He was buried on 14 October 1992 in Alford Cemetery, between Halsey and Harrisburg, Linn County, Oregon.3

He was married on Feb. 9, 1935, in Brownsville, to Edna Falk, who survives. He also is survived by four children: Alta Jean (Mrs. Ruby) Herr of Eugene, Ms. Betty Lou Dorsing of Salem, Joyce Arlene (Mrs. Doyle) Hopla of Brownsville, and Terry Lee Porter of Portland. Three brothers and a sister surviving are: Alpheus "Al" Porter of Brownsville, Harry Porter of Newberg and Floyd Porter of Lebanon; and Ms. Norma Prowell of Baker. She worked as a music educator and was noted for her cooking and sewing. She ws a member of Rebekah Lodge, the Grange and the Methodist Church. Survivors include three sons, Kenneth of Lillocet, B.C., Donald of Halfway and Vernon of Lacey, Wash; and 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchldren. One grandchild and one great-grandchild died previously. Tuesday's service will be at 1 p.m. at North Powder Methodist Church. A graveside service will held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Alford Cemetery near Harrisburg. Fisher Funeral Home in Albany is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American diabetes Association.2

     Kenneth died on 22 May 2001 in La Grande, Union County, Oregon, at age 94.1
     An obituary for Harvey Kenneth Vannice was published in the Register Guard, Eugene, Oregon on 25 May 2001. It read:
A celebration of life service will be held today, May 25, for Harvey "Kenneth" Vannice of La Grande, who died May 22 of age-related causes. The former Halsey resident was 94. Vannice was born Nov. 13, 1906, in Dayton, Wash., to James and Cassie Angel Vannice. He married Nellie Falk in Halsey on June 9, 1929. Vannice earned a bachelor's degree at Willamette University and a master's degree at Oregon State University. An educator, he taught all grades and coached various sports. He also worked in administration, and retired after 45 years education. In 1968, Vannice moved to North Powder. He later moved to La Grande. He was a member of North Powder Methodist Church and sang in the choir. He belonged to the grande, the Odd Fellows and the Lions Club. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Kenneth of Liliooet, B.C., Vernon of Lacey, Wash., and Donald of Halfway; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A grandchild and a great-grandchild died previously. Today's service will be held at 11 a.m. at North Powder Methodist Church. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alford Cemetery in Harrisburg. Daniels Chapel of the Valley in La Grande is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to North Powder Methodist Church in care of the funeral home, 1502 Seventh St., La Grande, OR 97850.1

Taylor's Ferry Road, Portland. The Rev. Cecil Goins of Portland's historic Hinson Memorial Baptist Church, will officiate. Private vault entombment at Riverview Abbey Mausoleum will follow the chapel service. Pearl Handley was born June 23, 1911, in Halsey. She lived in the community, growing-up and attending school, until 1939, when she moved to Oakridge. She resided there until moving to Pasco, Wash., in 1958. She moved to Portland in 1968, which had been her home city since. While a resident of Oakridge, Mrs. Boots was employed for 10 years by the U.S. Post Office there. She also was a member of Elm Rebekah Lodge No. 246, and the Eagles Auxiliary, both of Oakridge. Mrs. Boots is survived by her widower, Herbert H. Boots of Portland; a daughter, Mrs. Helen E. Love of Portland, and a stepson, Larry Boots, of Seattle, as well as seven grandchildren, and two sisters: Everett Falk of Junction City, Mrs. Nellie D. Vannice of North Powder, and Mrs. Grace e. Thompson of Eugene. The family suggests that friends who so desire may contribute memorials in her name to the American Cancer Society.5

Grace Elizabeth Thompson, a resident of Eugene and native of Halsey, passed away on March 22, 2002. She was 88. Grace was born in Halsey, Oregon on June 28, 1913 to Henry and Esther (Nemchick) Falk. She was a graduate of the old Halsey High School. Grace wed Eldon Thompson in Halsey on April 3, 1935, and they were married for 35 years before his death in 1970. Grace resided in the communities of Halsey, Anlauf, Curtin, Lorane and Eugene. She was a farmer and homemaker, whose hobbies and interests included gardening, canning, sewing, crochet, playing the piano and the accordian, and hunting and camping. She was a member of the Lorane Grange, and enjoyed the togetherness of family, friends, and the Methodist Church. Grace is survived by sons Gary Thompson of Lorane, and Daniel Thompson of Cottage Grove; brother Everett Falk of Junction City, sister Nellie Vannice of LaGrande, Oregon, give [sic] grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister. Grace had a private graveside service at the IOOF Cemetery in Loraine [sic] on Saturday, March 16. Memorial contributions in her name can be made to the Lorane Grange, or the American Cancer Society.4

Everett Falk. JUNCTION CITY--A memorial service will be held April 11 for Everett Henry Falk of Junction City, who died April 4 of age-related causes. He was 82. Falk was born June 21, 1920, in Halsey to Henry and Esther Nemcheck Falk. He married Phyllis Wetgen in Halsey on Oct. 1, 1941. He was a lifetime resident of this area and attended schools in Halsey. He worked as a farmer and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He served o the board of directors of Blachly-Lane Electrict Cooperative, the Northwest Public Power Association, the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Pacific Supply, the Oregon Mint Growers Association and the Junction City Rural Fire Department. He served on the Junction City School Board from 1966 until 1978 and his tenure culminated with the completion of Oaklea Middle School. He served as director of the Junction City Water Control DIstrict and helped develop the Flat Creek and Amazon drainage projects and the Hulbert Lake Irrigation project. He also belonged to the Oregon Farm Bureau, the Soil Conservation District, the Lane County Livestock Association, the American Angus Association and Oregon State University's Seed Certification Committee. He was a supporter of 4-H and contributed to decisions made locally and in Washington D.C. Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Barbara Falk of Eugene, Carol Beebe of Bozeman, Mont., and Tami Durbin of Junction City; a son, Larry of Albany; a sister, Nellie Vannice of La Grande; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Firday's service will be held at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Junction City. Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home in Junction City is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Junction City Fire Department.5

     Elizabeth Angeline Forster was born on 12 October 1896 in Gordon, Sheridan County, Nebraska.1
     She married Charles Ludwig Falk, son of Charles Ludwig Falk and Odelia Salvienia Rike, in Albany, Linn County, Oregon, on 11 August 1914.1
     On 2 January 1920 Elizabeth and Charles appeared on the 1920 U.S. census taken in East Halsey Precinct, Linn County, Oregon. He was enumerated as Charley L. Falk, Jr, farmer, renter, age 27, born in Iowa. She was listed as Elizabeth A. Falk, wife, age 23, born in Nebraska. Their children Leslie and Omar were listed as living with them. They were living next door to Charley's parents.2
     Elizabeth and Charles appeared on the 1940 U.S. census taken on 25 April 1940 in East Halsey Precinct, Linn County, Oregon. He was enumerated as Charles Falk, farmer on own farm valued at $1500, age 48, born in Iowa, had completed 7 grades of school. She was shown as Elizabeth Falk, wife, age 43, born in Nebraska and had completed 8 grades of school. They had been living at the same house in 1935. Their children Leslie, Lyman, Doris, Lila, Treva and Vonda were listed as living with them.3
     Elizabeth died on 12 March 1993 in Junction City, Lane County, Oregon, at age 96.4
     An obituary for Elizabeth Angeline Falk was published in the Times, Brownsville, Oregon on 17 March 1993. It read:
Elizabeth Angeline Falk, 96, of Junction City and formerly of Halsey, died March 12 at Grandview Manor, Junction City. She was born in Gordon, Neb., and moved to the Halsey area in the early 1900s. She married C.L. "Charlie" Falk August 11, 1914, in Albany and was a homemakerl. Mr. Falk died November 22, 1985. Mrs. Falk belonged to Halsey Christian Church, Purity Rebekah Lodge and Charity Grange. Surviving are sons Lyman of Redmond; daughters Doris Isom of Harrisburg, Vonda Fox of Halsey, Treva Yada of Brownsville and Lila Turrell of Corvallis; and sisters Joyce Roberts of Salem and Willameta Newton of Portland. Twenty grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren also survive. Sons Leslie and Omar, brother Robert Forster and sisters Celia Steinke and Blanche Sweet all died before here. Mrs. Falk's funeral will be at 2:00 p.m., today, March 17, at Grace Bible Fellowship, Halsey, with Pastor Don Bayne officiating. Burial will be at the Alford Cemetery.4
She was buried on 17 March 1993 in Alford Cemetery, between Halsey and Harrisburg, Linn County, Oregon.5,4

     An obituary for Leslie Edgar Falk was published in the Times, Brownsville, Oregon on 22 April 1982. It read:
Leslie E. "Les" Falk, 66-year-old lifetime resident of the Halsey community, passed away early Wednesday (April 21) at Albany Geneal Hospital, following a sudden illness. Memorial services for him will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) in the Halsey Christian Church. Margaret Carey will be organist, and the Rev. Steve Singleton will sing. Alford Cemetery is the place of interment. After Mr. Falk had become seriously ill, Tuesday night, the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) of the Halsey-Shedd Fire Department were called; and they responded with their new Rescue Van. They checked his vital signs and administered emergency aid until the ambulance they had summoned from Albany had arrived, to take him to the hospital. He underwent major emergency surgery, there; but did not respond. Les Falk was born June 3, 1915 in Halsey, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Falk of Halsey. He grew up in the community, going through the Halsey schools. Mr. Falk was a professional carpenter during most of his adult life. One of the last major construction jobs with which he ws involved ws the conversion and enlargement project changing the former Halsey Grade/High School plant to the present Central Linn Mid-School. He also was involved in the construction of the area's tallest structure--the elevator/seed warehouse constructed by Cross Brothers. It is now operated by International Seeds, Inc. He also worked on the construction of many other buildings in the Central Linn area. With his wife, Mr. Falk owned and operated the Halsey Hardware store for about 10 years, until they sold it to the present owners, Grandon and Lorna Hedges. He was married Oct. 19, 1941, in Brownsville to Virginia Isom-Falk, who survives; as do his parents. He also is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Mel) McDonald of Shedd; and Mrs. Cynthia Malcom of Vancouver, Wash. Two brothers and four sisters also survive. They are: Omar Falk of Halsey, Lyman Falk of Redmond, Doris (Mrs. Wade) Isom of Harrisburg, Lila (Mrs. Fred) Turrell of Harrisburg, Mrs. ATreva Yada of Sequim, Wash., and Vonda (Mrs. John) Fox of Halsey. Les falk's survivors also include five grandchildren: Kevin, Kelly and Erick McDonald of Shedd; and Todd and Toby Malcom of Vancourver, Wash., in adition to numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Fisher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. VIewing hours at Fisher's will be from 2-to-8 p.m. today (Thursday); and 9-to-11 a.m. tomorrow (Friday). The family suggests that friends who so desire may contribute memorials in his name to the American Cancer Society.5
He was buried on 23 April 1982 in Alford Cemetery, between Halsey and Harrisburg, Linn County, Oregon.6,7 His grave marker inscription reads: 1915. LESLIE L. FALK. 1982.8,7

Virginia Falk Sept 22, 1921 -- Sept. 22, 2006. Virginia Falk, 85, of Brownsville died Friday at Corvallis Manor. She was born near Brownsville, the daughter of Glenn Franklin and Elizabeth Marie (Wade) Isom. She graduated from Brownsville High School in 1939 and from Pacific College of Beauty in 1940. She worked as a beautician from 1940 to 1944 in Harrisburg and Albany. Virginia married Leslie Edgar Falk on Oct 19, 1941, in Brownsville. They farmed together for many years. Their first daughter, Sharon Elizabeth, was born in 1943, and their second daughter, Cynthia Ilene, was born in 1947. Virginia and Leslie designed and built a new home near Halsey between 1950 and 1952. They owned a hardware store for about 10 years. She received a degree as a medical assistant from Linn-Benton Community College in 1974. She sold the farm about 10 years ago and moved back to Brownsville, where she lived until her death. Virginia was a mother, farm wife, beautician, hardware store owner, bookkeeper and medical assistant. She was also an avid gardener. She painted and taught ceramics. She loved to travel in her RV and enjoyed the last 20 winters at her place in Yuma, Ariz. She was a lifelong member and past elder of the Brownsville Presbyterian Church. t one time, she belonged to the Brownsville Garden Club and the Study Club and was still active in the Pollyanna Club. She is survived by daughters and spouses Sharon and Roger Bills and Cynthia and Edward Malcom; grandsons and spouses Kevin and Annie McDonald, Kelly and Cheri McDonald, Eric McDonald, Todd and Dolly Malcom, and Toby Malcom; great-grandchildren Kyle, Jordon, Michael, Jessic, Cassie, Courtney, Grant, Chris, Brandon and Samantha; and her sister, Glenda Marie Pottorf. She will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by brother Douglas Franklin Isom in 1979; father Glenn Franklin Isom in 1981; husband of 40 years Leslie Edgar Falk in 1982; and sister Rosemary Frances Piper in 2003. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Alford Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Brownsville Presbyterian Church. Omar Ellsworth Falk, 72, who lived in the Halsey area nearly all his life, died June 1, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis. He was born Aug. 27, 1916, in Halsey, the son of Elizabeth (Forster) and Charles Ludwig Falk. Mr. Falk married Phebe Isom on Oct. 7, 1938, at Harrisburg. He was a farmer and rancher and spent his life in the Halsey area except for seven years at the China Valley Ranch he and his wife owned in Falkland, B.C., Canada. He trained working sheep dogs as a hobby and was active in the Oregon State Sheepdog Society. He and his son, Noel, organized the sheep dog trials at the Brownsville Pioneer Picnic. Mr. Falk was a member of Grace Bible Community Church in Halsey for 35 years. He is survived by his wife, Phebe of Halsey; daughters Marcele Smith of Brownsville and Diane Parker of Albany; son Noel Falk of Halsey; mother Elizabeth Falk of Junction City; brother Lyman Falk of Redmond; and sisters Doris Isom of Harrisburg, Vonda Fox of Halsey, Treva Yada of Halsey and Lila Turrell of Newberg. Seven grandchldren also survive. A brother, Leslie E. Falk, died on April 21, 1982. A graveside service for family and relatives was Monday at Alford Cemetery near Harrisburg. A memorial service open to the public ws Monday at Grace Bible Community Church in Halsey with Pastor Ed Reister officiating. Donations in Mr. Falk's memory may be made to the Grace Bible Community Church Memorial Fund.4
