about 1954
Lester Oran Albertson was born on 5 October 1907 in Edson area, Sherman County, Kansas.2 Lester's daughter, Joanne Skelton, remembers when he had to obtain a birth certificate in 1954, for Social Security purposes. She remembers the efforts her parents went to in order to do this. There was some discussion at the time about his exact name. So the documents chosen to get the delayed birth certificate were those which showed the name he wanted to use. The question was whether he was Lester Oran or Oran Lester. Apparently his mother chose to agree with him as she signed an affidavit to accompany his application.2 He was the son of Oran Jesse Albertson and Lucie Rachel Smalley.2
He appeared on the 1910 U.S. census taken on 3 May 1910 at Broadway Ave in Goodland, Sherman County, Kansas, in the household of his parents Oran and Lucie Rachel Albertson.      At Potter-Halsey Road in Shedd Precinct, Linn County, Oregon, he appeared on the 1930 U.S. census taken on 8 April 1930 in the household of his parents Oran and Lucie Rachel Albertson. He was listed as Lester Albertson, age 22, single, born in Kansas. He was able to read and write and his occupation was a laborer on a general farm.5
He married Wilma Anna Falk, daughter of Julius Adolph Falk and Florence Edna Bond, in Albany, Linn County, Oregon, on 4 November 1933.6,7 A newspaper article was printed on 9 November 1933 in the Harrisburg Bulletin, Harrisburg, Oregon about the marriage of Lester Oran Albertson and Wilma Anna Falk. It read: O.J.[sic] Albertson and Miss Wilma Falk were married Saturday. The ceremony took place at Albany. They will live on the Albertson farm west of Halsey. Miss Falk is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Falk. A party was given at the Chester Custis home Satuday night. An invitation had been sent the couple to come, addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Albertson, but without the knowledge that a wedding had taken place. They attended and turned the joke.8
Lester and Wilma appeared on the 1940 U.S. census taken on 12 April 1940 in Shedd Precinct, Linn County, Oregon. He was enumerated as Lester Albertson, age 33, born in Kansas, a farmer on his own farm valued at $600. He had completed the 8th grade. Wilma Albertson was shown as his wife, age 29, born in Oregon and had completed 4 years of high school. They both had been living in the same house in 1935. Their daughter Joanne was listed as living with them.9 Lester was listed in a directory for Linn County, Oregon, in 1953.      Harry Edward Skelton was born on 2 April 1913 in Caruthers, Fresno County, California.1 He was the son of John Chester Skelton and Mattie Herendeen.
He married Mary Jane Caldwell in Cottage Grove area, Lane County, Oregon, on 21 June 1936.2,3
He married Joanne Gayle Albertson, daughter of Lester Oran Albertson and Wilma Anna Falk, at Chapel of Promise in Reno, Washoe County, Nevada, on 10 July 1972.4 Harry and Joanne traveled to Reno to get married on July 10, 1972. They chose to use the Chapel of Promise, 495 Keystone Ave., Reno, Nevada, because Harry's son had used that chapel for his wedding the previous year. Some years later Harry and Joanne were in Reno and tried to revisit the site and discovered it appeared to be out of business as the same address seemed to be a pizza parlor. The minister who married them, Rev. V. Thompson, was black. When he read Harry's name during the ceremony, he misread it and at first used the name Harvey instead.5
After Harry and Joanne returned from their honeymoon, there was a reception for them at the James Hemenway home in Cottage Grove, Oregon on Sunday, 23 Jul 1972. Family and friends were there to help celebrate.5
In July 1975 Harry and Joanne moved to 1060 East Harrison Ave, Cottage Grove, Lane County, Oregon.5
10 July 1997 Harry Edward Skelton and Joanne Gayle Albertson had been married 25 years. Harry's children and grandchildren hosted a reception for them on July 26th at the Church of Christ, Cottage Grove, Oregon.5
Harry died on 31 January 1999 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, at age 85. The cause of death was congestive heart failure. His wife and family were with him at the hospital. He was buried at Rest-Haven Memorial Park, Eugene, Lane County, Oregon.6 His grave marker inscription reads: Harry E. Skelton. Apr. 2, 1913.
