     Zimri S. Ellis was born on 4 January 1849 in Greene County, Tennessee.1,2 He was the son of Solomon Ellis and Asenath Jones.
     He married Lydia C. Hockett, daughter of Francis Hockett and Rebecca D. Hartley, in Hardin County, Iowa, on 4 June 1870.1,3
     On 11 June 1880 in Providence Township, Hardin County, Iowa, Zimri and Lydia appeared on the 1880 U.S. census. He was listed as Zimenah S. Ellis, a 31 year old farmer born in Tennessee, both parents both in Tennessee.. Their children Albert, Solomon, Dora, Francis and Charles were listed as living with them. Also in the household was his father Solomon Ellis.4
     In March 1885 in Tilden Township, Cherokee County, Iowa, Zimri and Lydia appeared on the 1885 State census. He was shown as Zimri Ellis, age 36, farmer, born in Tennessee. She was listed as Lydia Ellis, age 32, born in Lee County, Iowa. Their children Albert, Solomon, Dora, Francis, Charles, Ralph and Roy were listed as living with them.5
     In Medway Township, Syracuse post office, Hamilton County, Kansas,Zimri and Lydia appeared on the state census in 1895. He was listed as Zimri S. Ellis, farmer, age 46, born in Tennesee. She was enumerated as Lydia C. Ellis, physician, age 42, born in Iowa. They had come to Kansas from Iowa. Their children Dora, Francis, Charles, Ralph, Roy, Abel, Esther and Martha were listed as living with them.6
     In Medway Township, Hamilton County, Kansas, Zimri and Lydia appeared on the 1900 U.S. census taken in June 1900. He was enumerated as Zimri S Ellis, farmer, age 51, born Jan 1849 in Tennessee. She was listed as Liddie C Ellis, wife, age 49, born Apr 1853 in Iowa. They had been married for 30 years and she had 10 children, all living. Their children Ralph, Roy, Abel, Esther and Martha were listed as living with them.7
     On 9 January 1920 Zimri and Lydia appeared on the 1920 U.S. census taken at 115 Meridian Street in Newberg Ward 2, Yamhill County, Oregon. His enumeration shows Zimri Ellis, married, age 71, born in Tennesee. His occupation was drayman for a feed store. She was listed as Liddy Ellis, wife, age 66, born in Iowa.8 Zimri became a widower at his wife's death on 4 November 1922.3,9
     Zimri S. Ellis married Dorothy Pennall on 25 January 1932.10
     Zimri died on 2 March 1938 in Newberg, Yamhill County, Oregon, at age 89.11,10,12 He was buried at Friends Cemetery, Newberg, Yamhill County, Oregon.13
     An obituary for Zimri S. Ellis was published in Newberg Graphic, Newberg, Oregon on 3 March 1938. It read:
Zimri Stewart Ellis, son of Solomon and Asneath Ellis was born at Raytown, Tenn., Jan. 4, 1849. He attended Friendsville Academy, in his early school years, later going to Iowa with his parents. On June 4th, 1870, he was united in marriage to Lydia C. Hockett. To this union ten children were born, seven boys and three girls. Seven are still living: Roy and Ralph of Colorado, Abel and Iona of New Mexico Esther of California, Clay and Wayne of Oregon. With his family he resided in Kansas for 24 years, much of the time on the frontier. For some years he ran a threshing marchine both in Iowa and Kansas. He came to Newberg Dec. 4, 1909, where he lived until his death March 2nd, 1938 at the age of 89 years, one month, and 26 days. Lydia died November 4th, 1922. On January 25, 1932 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Pennall. He was a birthright member in the Friends church. In the winter of 1865 he was converted. He has for a great many years been a very faithful worker in the church, having served as clerk of different monthly meetings, as quarterly meeting superintendent of evangelistic work, and at the time of his death an Elder in the Friends church at Newberg. Besides the children mentioned he leaves his wife, one brother Enos of Newberg, one sister, Nancy Davis, Whittier, Cal., 20 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, March 4th, 2:00 p.m. in the Newberg Friends church. The pastor Carl F. Miller in Charge, Levi R. Pennington, assisting; W. W. Hollingsworth funeral director. Burial will be in Friends cemetery.10

     She married John Allen Hinshaw at Cherry Grove Meeting House in Randolph County, Indiana, on 18 February 1835.3
     Elizabeth and John appeared on the 1850 U.S. census taken on 25 September 1850 in Salem Township, Henry County, Iowa. He was listed as John A Henshaw, age 36, born in North Carolina, occupation cabinet maker. She was shown as Elizabeth Henshaw, age 37, born in Ohio.. Their children Hannah, Sarah, Ann, Jacob, Isaac, Phebe and Mary were listed as living with them.4 Elizabeth became a widow at her husband's death on 6 February 1851.5
     In 1856 Elizabeth appeared on the state census in Salem, Henry County, Iowa. She was shown as Elizabeth Henshaw, age 42, widowed, born in Ohio, 18 years in Iowa. Her children Hannah, Sarah, Ann, Jacob, Isaac, Phebe and Mary were listed as living with her.6
     She married Job Smith in Salem, Henry County, Iowa, about 14 December 1864.7
     Elizabeth died on 28 September 1882 in Iowa at age 68.8

     John Hockett was born on 9 October 1823 in Randolph County, Indiana.1 He was the son of Isaac Hockett and Sarah Frazier.
     He married Elizabeth Pidgeon in Salem MM, Henry County, Iowa, on 22 October 1842.2
     He married Rebecca Gray in Iowa on 27 July 1848.2
     He married Elizabeth Ingraham in Iowa on 30 June 1870.2
     John died on 11 March 1896 at age 72.2
