Mary Dyer was born August 20, 1898, near Ayrshire. She attended high school in Great Oak Township, and later attended normal training school in Emmetsburg. She taught county school in Great Oak Township for one year and in 1924 was united in marriage to Walter Ward in Algona. The couple farmed in the Titonka, Wesley, Corwith and Humboldt areas. Following her husband's death she continued to live in Curlew, until the fall of 1986, when she moved to Humboldt. In November of 1988 she moved to the Care Center South in Humboldt. She was a member of the Jessica Circle, Beaver's Ladies Group, and was a hospital volunteer at Emmetsburg for many years. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. Her interests were her church, gardening, sewing, tatting, family, flowers, and baseball. Mary Ward passed away at the Care Center South in Humboldt on June 12, at the age of 96 years, following a lengthy illness. She is survived by her daughters, June Oswald of Brownsdale, Minnesota; Mary Black of Norman, Oklahoma; Laura Seiler of Humboldt; and Sylvie Larson of Thor; a son, Walter Ward, Jr. of Pella; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lillian Marker of Booneville, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, in 1968; a son, John; four grandchildren; four sisters; and three brothers.3

In Pulaski Township, Iowa County, Wisconsin, he appeared in the household of Frederick William Falk on the 1900 U.S. census taken on 8 June 1900.3 In 1989 Henry's cousin John Duffey wrote the following about him: "I grew up knowing Big Hank and liked him very much. In his later years he lived in Muscoda and died here....This man was huge, with hands like hams and had a heart of gold. He had not had an easy or satisfying life, but in spite of it he was always pleasant, sometimes a bit gruff but fun to have around."4
Henry died in February 1960 in Muscoda, Grant County, Wisconsin, at age 70.5,6 A cousin, John Duffey, wrote the following about Henry's death. "I found him dead in his little house one morning--he hadn't showed up at our station the day before which was most unusual so the next morning I drove down to the house, hammer on the door, to no avail, so I dug out a key he had given me to keep and opened the door. He had gotten out of bed, made it to the kitchen table and then had a heart attack. He was half off the chair and had been dead for at least 24 hrs beore I found him--at least that is what the Coroner's report said."7 He was buried at Avoca Cemetery, Avoca, Iowa County, Wisconsin.8 His grave marker inscription reads: FALK. HENRY. 1889 1960.8

Both were long-time residents of the Halsey area. The Rev. Gary Knuths will officiate and interment will be at Alford Cemetery, Fisher Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Falk passed away at the Mennonite Home near Albany at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, and Charlies succumbed 12 hours later at the Lyn Manor Nursing Home in Lebanon. Baynard Hillway will be solosist [sic] at the double service, and Mrs. Hillway, organist. On floral committee are Mrs. Raymond Kirk and Mrs. Charles Bierly. Bearers for Mrs. Falk are: Raymond Kirk, Rawley Falk, Everett Falk, John Smith, Charles Bierly and Robert Carey. His bearers are: Robert May, Oscar Davis, Charles Caufield, James Kirk, Charles Curtis, and Leslie Falk.
Anna Elizabeth Falk. Mrs. Falk was born May 9, 1893 at Avoca, Wisc. She came to the Halsey area with her parents in 1903, and lived there until her final illness. She was married April 9, 1909 at Halsey to Louis R. Falk, Sr., who passed away Feb. 21, 1955. She was a member of the Lutheran Church. Anna Elizabeth Falk. Mrs. Falk was born May 9, 1893 at Avoca, Wisc. She came to the Halsey area with her parents in 1903, and lived there until her final illness. She was married April 9, 1909 at Halsey to Louis R. Falk, Sr., who passed away Feb. 21, 1955. She was a member of the Lutheran Church.
