She was born Feb. 9, 1910 to Louis and Anna Falk on the family farm between Halsey and Brownsville. She was married to Clifford P. Thompson in 1930 and the couple made their home south of Halsey for a number of years before moving to Merced, Calif. in 1943. After his retirement the Thompsons moved to Grants Pass; and then to Washington, to be near a son. Mr. Thompson passed away in 1980. Since her husband's death, Mrs. Thomson spent much of her time with a daughter and her missionary family in Mexico. Survivors include two sons: Wayne Thompson of Milwaukie, and David Thompson of LCuster; two daughters: Ms. Ruth Hughes of Fortana, Calif., and Ms. Leta tkinson of Los Reyes, LaPaz, Mexico. An older son, Prentice Thompson, preceded his parents in death. Also surviving Mrs. Thompson are three sisters, Edna (Mrs. Jud) Porter of Brownsville, Mrs. Luella Starnes of Culver, and Mrs. Betty Jean Alexander of St. David, Ariz., as well as three brothers: Louis R. Falk and Stanley Falk of Halsey and Delmer O. Falk of Sisters. Mrs. Thompson also is survived by numerous grandchildren. Services were conducted Jan. 12 in Los Reyes, with burial in Mexico. Ava Falk-Thompson was particularly noted for her original poetry for family and other occasions. She came, annually, to the Falk family reunions. She also shared her recollections of the old days in verse during the June, 1983, Kirk School reunion.6

Porter of Portland; daughters Betty Dorsing of Salem and Alta Herr of eugene; brothers, Louis Falk of Halsey and Delmer Falk of Sisters; sister Betty Jean Alexander of St. David, Ariz; and 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Daughter Joyce Hopla died in 1991, and two brothers and three sisters died before Mrs. Porter. A private, family graveside service will be at Overton Cemetery in Brownsville. Funeral services were held July 18 at Madras Church of Christ with Mrs. Glenn Williams of Madras and Lyle Starnes officiating. Musical selections were sung by Del and Carol Towell of Redmond. Arrnagements were handled by Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Home in Madras.4

She grew up in the Halsey community; and, after graduating from Albany High school, move to Portland, where she reside many years. She had been a resident of Newport the past 11 years. Her business career included sales, personnel counseling and ownership of a gift shop. She aslo served as a dispatcher for the Newport Police Department for six years, working part-time during the last three years, after her retirement. At the time of her death, Mrs. Reese was writing a cookbook and an autobiography, based on her experiences growing up on the Halsey area farm, and career in Portland and Newport. At her request, she was cremated. She is survived by three children: Thomas C. Reese of Mercer Island, Wash; Mrs. Sharon Lolley of Seattle and Mrs. Judith Hayes of Oregon City. She also is survived by four sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Ava Thompson of Mexico City; Edna (Mrs. Jud) Porter of Brownsville, Ella (Mrs. Aaron) Starnes of Culver and Betty (Mrs. James) Alexander of St. David, Ariz; Louis and Stanley Falk of Halsey and Delmar Falk of Sisters. One brother, Charlie Falk, proceded her in death. She also is susvived by five grandchildren: Heather Reese of Lake Grove, Colin Reese of Mercer Island, Elizabeth and Michael Lolley of Seattle, Nicole Hayes of Oregon City. Her son, Thomas Reese, wrote of his mother's passing, also saying: "The family thanks all of her relatives and other friends for their sympathy and help; and wishes any remembrances be amde in her name i the form of contributions to the donors' favorite charities."4

Louis lived his entire life in Halsey, except while serving in the US Army during World War II. He was a farmer, and he enjoyed fishing. Louis was very clever with building things and fabricating. Ina Marie VanLeeuwen and Louis were married in Halsey on October 3, 1953. Mrs. Falk died on February 2, 1995. Mr. Falk was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship in Tangent, where he served as an Elder. He was on the Central Linn School Board; a plaque honoring his contribution in[sic] at the elemenatary building. Louis also belonged to the Oregon Ryegrass Commission and ASCS. Family members who survive include his chldren and their spouses--Karen and Maurice Short of Halsey, Aart and Sheri Falk of Shedd, Janna and Steve Moore of Halsey; brother Delmer Falk of Burns; sister Betty Jean Alexander of St. David, Arizona; five grandchildren--Sara Christianson, Mike Moore, Hanna Moore, Scuyler[sic] Short, and Stuart Short; one great-grand daughter Elizabeth Christianson. Mr. Falk was preceded in death by a daughter, Mindy Falk, in 1979; brother Stanley and Charlie Falk; and sisters -- Edna Porter, Ava Thompson, Ardella Reese and Ella Starnes. The funeral was held on Wednesday, May 30 at the Grace Bible Fellowship in Tangent. Concluding graveside services were held at Alford Cemetery. Delmer O. Falk March 13, 1929--May 25, 2009. Delmer O. Falk, 80, passed away May 25 at his home near Burns with loved ones at his side. He ws born to Louis R. Sr. and Anna Drone Falk at the family home near Halsey. He attended grade school at a small county school near the family home. Afer grade school he began work on the farm and at a lumber mill in the Brownsville area until he went into the U.S. Army in the late '40s and early '50s. It was there that he got his high school education. After he returned home from the Army he drove a log truck and also went to work for Fisher Implement Company in Halsey. Finally he went to work for his brother in the Burns area for a couple of years, and then moved back to the Willamette Valley in the Junction City area to begin working in the logging industry. He worked for Pete Austin and Walt Barrows before working ofr Chester Bradley. From there, he and his wife moved to the Sisters area in 1969. In 1971 he started working for Babier Brothers in construction out of the Redmond area. He quit that job in 1963 and went to Alaska, where he spent nine years working on construction during the summer months. He worked with heavy equipment building roads on the pipeline, at mining and airports as far north as Barrow, Alaska. He retired in 1972 to his home in the Sisters area. In 2007 he moved back to Harney County, near Burns. His hobbies were putting together flyable airplane kits, building motorized toys for his great-granddaughter, Shannon, who he helped raise for 13 years, tinkering with building a wood splitter, his flatbed trailer, small farm equipment, camping, hunting and fishing with his wife of over 50 years. Delmer is survived by his wife, Audry Hill Falk, granddaughter Shannon Quillin; stepson Harold Curtis; stepgrandchildren; sister Betty Alexander of St. David, Ariz; sister-in-law Judy Falk of Halsey; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Charlie D., Louis R. Jr. and Stanley M. Falk, and four sisters, Ava Thompson, Edna Porter, Luella Starnes and Ardella Reese. At Delmer's request there will be no service. LaFollett's Chapel handled arrangements.2

He was preceded in death by Ava Thompson, Louella Starnes, and Ardella Reese. Memorials can be made to the charity of one's choice care of Fisher Funeral Home. Pall bearers were Karl Bramwell, Irwin Gardner, Geo. Dannen, Guy Layton, Ralph Bierly and Alfred Savage. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Veda Bramwell, Mrs. Jean Mishler, Mrs. Bernice Gardner and Mrs. Nellie Isom. Interment was in the Alford cemetery.3

Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Esther Nelson of Albany. Mrs. Rike was a longtime member of the Halsey Christian Church; and had been active in the Home Extension program. During the chapel service, Tim and Scottl sang a duet; as did Patsy (Mrs. Gary) Keen and Margaret (Mrs. Robert) Kary [sic] Mrs. Gary Keen was organist.2

Rites for Rosa Beth Carey, who lived 80 of her 81 years in the Halsey area and who passed away Monday afternoon, Jan. 3, in Salem General Hospital, Memorial Division following a prolonged illness, will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) in the Halsey United Methodist Church, of which she was a longtime member. Mrs. Carey ws born Nov. 27, 1901, in Algona, Ia. She came to Oregon, when one year of age, with her parents, Henry and Paulina (Falk) Seefeld, settling near Halsey. She was married on March 10, 1921 in Albany, to Everett E. Carey, who survives. A life-long homemaker, she and her husband farmed southeast of Halsey for many years, living most of their married lives on the Carey Century Farm. In addition to her membership in the Methodist Church, Mrs. Carey had been active as a Sunday School teacher, a choir member and conference delegate. She also was a life member of the Women's Society of Christian Service (WSCS--now United Methodist Women); and a longtime member of the (former) Halsey Study Club. Active for many years in community work, she served as clerk of the former Kirk School District in the Halsey area. Officiating during Friday's services will be the Rev. Ralph Ohling, Church Pastor; assisted by Mrs. Carey's grandson, the Rev. David Wildermuth of Eugene, and grandson-in-law, the Rev. Clifford Good of Portland. Maxine (Mrs. Ralph) Ohling will be organist, while the vocalists will be Edna (Mrs. Don) Gans of Strathmore, Calif., formerly of Central Linn; and Betty (Mrs. Sam) Sawyer of Halsey. They will sing, in duet, "Precious Hiding Place" and "In the Sweet By and By". "Amazing Grace" will be a congregational song. The bearers will be: Don Crover, Willard Keen, Bob Kirk, Jim Kirk, David Smith and John Smith, all of Halsey. Interment will be at Alford Cemetery, between Halsey and Harrisburg. TAhe family suggests that memorials may be given in her name to: the Halsey United Methodist Church, or to the Oregon Lions Sight Foundation, Inc. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Carey is survived by two children: Margaret (Mrs. Wesley) Wildermuth of Manila, P.I; and Robert E. Carey of Halsey; as well as Five grandchildren: David Wildermuth of Eugene, Charlene (Mrs. Clifford) Good of Portland; Ronald Wildermuth of Chandler, Ariz; William Carey of Halsey and Elizabeth Carey of Albany. Also surviving are seven great-grandchidldren; adn two sisters: Mrs. Alice Rike and Mrs. Esther Nelson of Albany, as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Fisher Funeral Home of Albany has charge of arrangements.4

She was born Sept. 30, 1909, in Halsey, the daughter of Henry Seefeld and Paulina (Falk) Seefeld. She grew up in Halsey, graduated from high school there and then attended business college in Salem. On June 13, 1929, she married Loren Nelson in Albany. After marrying, she lived in Portland for 15 years and then moved to Albany in 1948. Mrs. Nelson was a bookkeeper. She had worked in the alumni office of Oregon State College, for Herrold & Jensen farm implement company in Albany and then for Albany Magneto. She rtired in the late 1960s. Mrs. Nelson was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship Church and the American Association of Retired Persons. Surviving are her husband, Loren of Albany; daughter Patricia Wallace of LaGrande; son Dan L. Nelson of Arlington, Mass; four grandchldren; and five great-grandchildren. Two brothers and five sisters died before Mrs. Nelson. Burial will be in Willamette Memorial Park. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home with Pastor Don Bayne officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland.2

He married Esther Elizabeth Seefeld on June 13, 1929, in Albany, and they settled in Albany in 1948. Mrs. Nelson died Aug. 1, 1991. Mr. Nelson delivered appliances for Sears and for 20 years worked in maintenance at Rubensteins Furniture. He had belonged to the Fist Baptist Church, the North Albany Baptist Church and Grace Bible Fellowship. He enjoyed working in his yard. Surviving are son Daniel of Arlington, Mass; daughter Pat Wallace of Albany; sister Geraldine Nelson of Great Falls, Mont; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
