     An obituary for Bertha May Mielke was published in the Albany Democrat Herald, Albany, Oregon on 7 December 1995. It read:
Bertha May Mielke. March 1, 1915 - Dec 5, 1995. TANGENT -- Bertha May Mielke, 80, of Tangent, died Tuesday at her home. She was born in wilcox, Arizona, the daughter of Lester and Anna (Seefeld) Powell. She grew up on a farm near Halsey and graduated from Halsey High School. She was a descendant of Joab Powell, the circuit-riding preacher who founded Providence church. She married Carl Daniel Mielke June 6, 1940, in Albany, and they lived on a farm between Halsey and Shedd. Mr. Mielke died in 1966. After her husband's death, Mrs. Mielke was a care giver and lived with elderly patients throughout Oregon. She retired in 1988. In recent years she stayed with her daughters. Mrs. Mielke belonged to Albany Christian Church and AARP. Surviving are sons: Lester daniel Mielke of Las Vegas, Nev., and Clinton Joab Mielke of Phoenix, Ariz; daughters Anna Louise Veach of Lebanon and Betty Lou Seals of Tangent; and 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A brother, a sister and three grandchildren died before her. Viewing will be until 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at AAsum Funeral Home. Mrs. Mielke's funeral will be a 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Pastor Ray Lindley officiating. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Halsey.2
