     He appeared in the household of Henry Rosenau on the 1910 U.S. census taken on 30 April 1910 in Portland Township, Kossuth County, Iowa. He was listed as August Schrader, father-in-law, age 77, married 47 years, born in Germany as were his parents. His occupation was listed as boarding, and he was unable to read or write.3
     August died on 21 June 1917 in What Cheer, Keokuk County, Iowa, at age 75.1,2 He was buried at Good Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Titonka, Kossuth County, Iowa.4
     An obituary for August Frederick Schrader was published in an unidentified newspaper, Iowa about 27 June 1917. It read:
Aug. Schrader, Old Soldier and Settler of the Vicinity Buried Here Sunday. August Frederick Schrader was was [sic] born May 10, 1842, in Nakel Kries Bromber, Province of Posen, Germany, died June 21, 1991 at his home at What Cheer, Iowa, age 75 years, 1 month and 11 days. Mr. Schrader, who was well known by many readers of this paper, came to the United States at the age of 10 years. He landed at New York and migrated to Wisconsin where he made his home. In the year 1861 he enlisted in a Wisconsin regiment and served from the date of his enlistment in the War of the Rebellion until the war was over, receiving an honorable discharge after the surrender of Lee at Appoptamox.[sic] After the war he returned to Wisconsin where in the latter part of the year 1865 he was married to Miss Wilhelmine Falk. To this union nine children were born, three sons and six daughters, all of whom are living except one, the eldest daughter who died many years ago. Mr. Schrader was twice married. His first wife passed away June 21, 1908, and was buried on June 24, 1908, just nine years ago, both dying on the same day day of the month and week and were buried on the same day of the month and the same day of the week.[sic] May 12th, 1911 he was married to Mrs. Annie Harvey of What Cheer, Iowa. Since his second marriage he has lived at What Cheer Iowa, where he died. His body was shipped from that town where it remained in undertaker Loson's rooms until Sunday at 2 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. Schrader came to Iowa forty years ago and settled on a farm west of town now owned by Haggard & Falkenhainer. He was an old settler and pioneer of this neighborhood and was well known by the older settlers of Buffalo and German townships. A few years ago he sold his farm containing 220 acres and gave a good share of it to his children. He was stricken with paralysis last winter and one stroke after another took him away. His son Henry and his wife cared for him from the time of his latest illness until his death. Funeral services were held at the German Lutheran church in Titonka Sunday at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Mueller in German and rev. Wellneu in English, after which the remains were interred in the German Lutheran cemetery by the side of his first wife. He leaves to mourn his departure seven children as follows: Mrs. Sever Pannkuk, Mrs. Jas. L. Crees of Oklahoma, Mrs. John Pannkuk, Mrs. Will Rike of Burt, Mrs. Henry Rosenau of Mankato, Minn., A. F. Schrader of Webster City and Henry of What Cheer. All of his children were present at the funeral except Mrs. Crees. Also his second wife and thirty-three grandchildren. The Topic extends its sympathy to the relatives in their bereavement.1

     He married Sarah Jane Wickersham on 18 September 1852.1
     On 16 August 1860 James appeared on the 1860 U.S. census taken in Jackson Township, Henry County, Iowa. Others in the household included his wife Sarah and daughter.2 James became a widower at his wife's death on 28 September 1862.1
     He married Eliza Ann Hockett, daughter of Francis Hockett and Rebecca D. Hartley, in Salem, Henry County, Iowa, on 24 December 1863.1
     In Marion Township, Pilot Grove, Lee County, Iowa, on 2 June 1870 James appeared on the 1870 U.S. census..3
     On 2 June 1880 in Marion Township, Lee County, Iowa, James and Eliza appeared on the 1880 U.S. census. Their children Elwood, Jonathan, Joseph, Francis, Dolly, William and Frederick were listed as living with them. Also in the household was Emma, James' daughter from his first marriage.4 In 1881 James and Eliza moved to Eureka Precinct, Jefferson County, Nebraska.1 About 1890 James and Eliza moved to Sherman County, Kansas.1
     In Haddam Township, Washington County, Kansas, James and Eliza appeared on the 1900 U.S. census taken on 6 June 1900. He was shown as James Denney,a farmer, age 71, born June of 1829. in Ohio, his parents born in Virginia. Eliza was listed as Eliza A. Denney, wife, age 59, born May 1841 in Iowa, her parents born in Indiana. It showed years married as 39, although this may be incorrect.5 In March 1905 James and Eliza moved to Fairbury, Jefferson County, Nebraska.1
     James died on 1 January 1906 in Fairbury, Jefferson County, Nebraska, at age 76.1 He was buried on 3 January 1906 in Fairbury Cemetery, Fairbury, Jefferson County, Nebraska.6 His grave marker inscription reads: JAMES C. DENNEY. 1829 - 1906. On stone with his wife Eliza.7
     An obituary for Rev James Calvin Denney was published in the Fairbury Journal, Fairbury, Nebraska after 3 January 1906. It read:
James C. Denney was born June 29, 1829 in Preble County, Ohio, died January 1, 1906, was married to Sarah Jane Wickersham on the 18th day of September, 1852 and to this union were born four children of which only C. H. Denney survives. He was afterwards married to Eliza Ann Hocket on December 24, 1863. To this union were born seven boys and three girls, of whom six boys and one girl survives. The surviving children are C. H. Denney of Fairbury, E. J. Denney of Colorado Springs, CO., J. E. Denney of Argo, CO., J. C. Denney of Lawrence, NE., F. W. Denney of Nebraska, Dollie Dye of Topeka, KS., W. A. Denney of Enosdale, KS., and F. B. Denney of Topeka, KS. He came to Lee County, Iowa, when but a boy where he resided until 1881, when he moved to Eureka precinct, Jefferson County, where he lived nine years selling his farm and going on to Sherman County, KS., removing from thence to Washington County and in March 1905, removed to Fairbury spending most of the past summer in visiting his children. He was converted in 1864 and in 1882 was ordained a minister of the Friends Church and has ever since spent a part of his time in preaching the gospel. He was the oldest son of eleven. He leaves surviving him in addition to his wife and children; a sister, Susannah Thornburg of Western, NE., Mary E. Cowgill of Clarks, NE., and Ellen Harold of Carleton, NE., and two brothers Frank and Eli Denney, both of Lee County, Iowa. His brother Joseph, two years younger than he, having died on the 15th of Dec. 1905. Four years ago he accidently fell striking his right side on the corner of a box, which caused him great pain and a long spell of sickness, from the effects of which he never entirely recovered. He has for the past year been failing and took to his bed on Wednesday the 29th of November, 1905 saying that would be his last sickness. The funeral was held Wednesday, January 3, 1906 at the M.E. Church in this city, Rev. Orrill officiating with burial at Fairbury, NE.1

     In Marion Township, Pilot Grove, Lee County, Iowa, he appeared on the 1870 U.S. census in the household of Rev James Calvin Denney on 2 June 1870. He was listed as Jonathan Denney. age 4 born in Iowa.2
     On 2 June 1880 in Marion Township, Lee County, Iowa, he appeared on the 1880 U.S. census in the household of his parents James and Eliza Ann Denney. He was shown as Jonathan, a 14 year old son.3
     He married Mary E. (?) about 1890.4 As of 1900, Jonathan E. Denney was also known as John.4
     In Precinct 2, Western District, Arapahoe County, Colorado, John appeared on the 1900 U.S. census taken on 6 June 1900. Included in his household were his wife Mary and their three children, James, Ethel and Charles. His name was shown as John Denney, age 34, born April 1866 in Iowa, with both parents born in Ohio. His occupation was shown as ore sampler at a smelter.4
     John and Mary appeared on the 1910 U.S. census taken on 20 April 1910 in Denver, Precinct 9, Denver County, Colorado. Other household members were their three teenage children, Ray, Ethel and Charles. Jonathan's occupation was shown as fireman at gas works.5
     On 3 January 1920 John and Mary appeared on the 1920 U.S. census taken in Denver, Denver County, Colorado. Also in the household were his married son Ray with his wife Bessie and son Elsworth, and John's other children: Ethel, Charles and Mildred. The birthplaces for John and Mary appear to be transposed, showing Missouri for John and Iowa for Mary. His occupation was foreman at gas company and he was listed as owner of his home on Jason Street.6
     Jonathan died between 1920 and 1930 in Denver, Denver County, Colorado.7

     He married Elpharatia Viola Cline in Fairbury, Jefferson County, Nebraska, on 9 January 1890.1
