Mary Jane Walker
F, #425, b. 25 March 1801, d. 27 February 1873
- Relationship
- 3rd great-grandmother of Joanne Gayle Albertson
Mary Jane Walker was born on 25 March 1801 in South Carolina.1,2 She was the daughter of Rachel (?)3 It is probable that Rachel was the mother of Mary, Martha and Eliza. Rachel Walker was living with Eliza Bell in the 1850 census. No direct evidence has yet been found that Martha and Mary and Eliza are sisters. However, Martha and Mary, were married at the same location, both with surname Walker. Comparing the names of the children of Martha, Mary and Eliza many duplicates are found. There is an old family story that the England's sister married a Bell. It seems probable that it was the sister of the England's wives who married the Bell.4
She married William Logsdon England, son of Joseph England and Mary Reed, in Gibson County, Tennessee, on 2 March 1827.5,6 About 1829 Mary and William moved to Montgomery County, Illinois. Their son John went with them.7 Mary and William moved to Fabius Township, Davis County, Iowa, about 1847. Their children John, David, Margaret, James, Mary and Rachel went with them.8,7

Their children John, David, Margaret, James, Mary and Rachel were listed as living with them.9
In 1856 Mary and William appeared on the state census in Wyacondah Township, Davis County, Iowa. William was listed as a farmer, age 52, born in Kentucky, and Mary was age 53 born in South Carolina. They were shown as residents of Iowa for 9 years. The agricultural section showed 7 acres of oats, producing 300 bushels; 25 acres of corn, producing 780 bushels; 1/2 acre of potatoes, producing 30 bushels; 2 hogs sold for value of $13; and 125 pounds of butter produced for value of $20. Their children John, David, Margaret, James, Mary and Rachel were listed as living with them.10
