Monmouth-Alton Benjamin Falk of Monmouth, Oregon died peacefully April 21, 2008 after battle with emphysema and congestive heart failure. Born September 14, 1943 to Webster and Eva Falk. He spent his early life on the family farm in Suver. He married Karen Fountain February 22, 1964 and worked briefly for Southern Pacific Railroad before being drafted into the Marine Corp in 1965. He did a 13 month tour of duty in Vietnam after which finished duty as military police in Camp Pendleton California. Through the years, he worked in manufacturing, most of which involved building carnival rides. He purchased a small farm west of Monmouth and moved a week before his son, Timothy, was born in February 1970 [sic]. Two and half years later, he again became a proud father of a second son, Mathew, in August 1970. His boys, wife and farm were his life until he was forced to medically retire in August 2003. Twin grandsons, Eric and Scott, joined the family January 2003. They were his pride and joy, helping to feed the sheep and riding tractors. As illness progressed, he was limited in the amount of actual farm work he could do so he spent time gardening and taking his dog for a run. She would follow him anywhere he would, taking the riding lawn mower of the pickup. He enjoyed reading cross word puzzles and of late, Sudoku, on the days he couldn't get out and about. He was preceded in death by father, Webster; brother, Verl A; nephew, Verl W; and father-in-law, Leonard Fountain. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Karen of Monmouth; sons, Timothy of Salem and Matthew (Christin and grandsons, Scott and Eric) of Leaburg; mother, Eva Stufflebeam of Corvallis; sister, Marian (Tom) Kingsberry of Corvallis; another morther-in-law, Murn Fountain of Dallas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Sharron Fountain of Lyons; three nieces; and one nephew. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Casey Eye Institution, 3375 SW Terwilliger Blvd, Portland, Ore. 97239-4197. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2008 at the Monmouth Christian Church with Burial following at Restlawn Memory Gardens in Salem. Reception will follow the graveside back at Monmouth Christian Church. Arrangements entrusted to Farnstrom Mortuary, Independence...2
