     In Wesley Township, Kossuth County, Iowa, he appeared on the 1900 U.S. census taken on 1 June 1900 in the household of his parents Charles and Odelia Salvienia Falk. Henry's listing showed him as Henry Falk, son, single, age 10, born Jun 1889, in Iowa and parents born in Germany. His school attendance was for 6 months.3
     He married Esther Elizabeth Nemchick in Halsey, Linn County, Oregon, on 16 June 1908.4

     On 2 January 1920 Henry and Esther appeared on the 1920 U.S. census taken in East Halsey Precinct, Linn County, Oregon. His listing showed him as Henry J. Falk, farmer, renter, age 30, born in Iowa. She was listed as Ester E. Falk, wife, age 30, born in Oregon. Their children Nellie, Pearl and Grace were listed as living with them. They were living next door to Henry's brother, William.6
     In East Halsey Precinct, Linn County, Oregon, Henry and Esther appeared on the 1930 U.S. census taken on 28 April 1930. He was listed as Henry Falk, farmer on general farm, age 40, born in Iowa, parents born in Germany. She was shown as Esther Falk, wife, age 40, born in Oregon. Their children Pearl, Grace and Everett were listed as living with them. Also in their household was Henry's brother, Christopher Falk.7 A newspaper article was printed on 4 July 1935 in the Brownsville Times, Brownsville, Oregon naming Henry. It read: Henry Falk, farmer living near Halsey, was painfully injured Saturday when his car was struck by a car driven by Dr. Frank W. Rafferty of a CCC camp in Douglas county. Mr. Falk was taken to an Albany hospital. His brother, riding with him, escaped injury, as did Dr. Rafferty. The Rafferty car left the highway near a service station in Halsey and struck the Falk car which had just drove up to the station was off the highway. So hard was the impact that that Falk car was demolished, and also a gas pump.8
     Henry and Esther appeared on the 1940 U.S. census taken on 25 April 1940 in East Halsey Precinct, Linn County, Oregon. He was enumerated as Henry Falk, farmer on his own farm valued at $1500, age 50, born in Iowa, completed 8 grades of school. She was listed as Esther Falk, wife, age 50, born in Oregon, completed 8 grades of school. They had lived in the same house in 1935. Their son Everett was listed as living with them. Henry's brother, Christopher Falk, was also living in their household.9
     Henry died on 12 June 1951 in Linn County, Oregon, at age 62.1,10
     An obituary for Henry John Falk was published in an unidentified newspaper, Oregon on 13 June 1951. It read:
Henry John Falk, 62, prominent farmer and Halsey resident for the past 50 years, died at a local hospital yesterday following a brief illness. He was born at Wesley, Iowa, on June 6, 1889, coming to Oregon at an early age with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Falk, when they settled at Silverton, moving in 1901 to Halsey where he has since been continuously engaged in farming. Since 1941 he has been farming with his son, Everett H. Falk of Junction City. A member of the Halsey First Methodist church, Mr. Falk had also been a member of the Halsey school board for 10 years. He married Esther Nemchick at Halsey June 16, 1908. Surviving besides his wife, Esther, are three daughters, Mrs. Nellie Vannice, Halsey; Mrs. Pearl Handley, Oakridge, Ore; and Mrs. Grace Thompson of Curtin, Ore; a son, Everett H. Falk of Junction City, Ore; six brothers, Fred W., Monmouth, Ore; Louis R., Halsey; Chistopher H., Halsey; Adolph L., Monmouth; Charles L., Halsey and William A. Falk of Halsey; two sisters, Mrs. Julia Swanson, Richville, Minn., and Mrs. Rosa Bierly of Brownsville. Ten grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted by the Fortmiller-Fredericksen Funeral Home Friday at 2:30 p.m. from the Halsey First Methodist church, with Rev. J. C. Johannes, pastor of that church, officiating. Concluding services will take place in the Alford cemetery near Harrisburg following services at Halsey.4
He was buried on 15 June 1951 in Alford Cemetery, between Halsey and Harrisburg, Linn County, Oregon.11 His grave marker inscription reads: FALK. HENRY J. JUNE 6, 1889, JUNE 12, 1951. This is on a double stone with his wife Esther.12,11

He was enumerated as Charles Falk, farmer on own farm valued at $1500, age 48, born in Iowa, had completed 7 grades of school. She was shown as Elizabeth Falk, wife, age 43, born in Nebraska and had completed 8 grades of school. They had been living at the same house in 1935. Their children Leslie, Lyman, Doris, Lila, Treva and Vonda were listed as living with them.10
     Charles died on 22 November 1985 at Sunset Care Center in Albany, Linn County, Oregon, at age 93.3 He was buried on 26 November 1985 in Alford Cemetery, between Halsey and Harrisburg, Linn County, Oregon.4,11
     An obituary for Charles Ludwig Falk was published in The Times, Brownsville, Oregon on 27 November 1985. It read:
"Charlie" Falk. C. L. "Charlie" Falk, age 93, of Halsey, passed away Friday November 22, 1985 at the Sunset Care Center in Albany. A funeral was held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 26 at the Grace Bible Fellowship Church at Halsey. He was interred at Alford Cemetery. Mr. Falk was born February 14, 1892 in Wesley, Iowa. He came to Silverton in 1902 and to Halsey in 1903. He attended Kirk School near Halsey, and farmed in the Halsey area for many years. He married Elizabeth Forster on August 11, 1914 in ALbany and is survived by his wife, two sons, four daughters, 20 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. Sons and daughters are Omar Falk, Vonda Fox and Treva Yada of Halsey, Doris Isom of Harrisburg, Lyman Falk of Redmond and Lila Turrell of Newberg. A third son, Leslie Edgar Falk, died April 21, 1982. Mr. C. L. Falk was a member of Charity Grange and a life-time member of IOOF. Funeral arrangements were in the charge of Fisher Funeral Home, Inc. of Albany. Marilyn Moore served as pianist and Margaret Carey sang for the ceremony. Pall bearers were Larry Parker, Howard Falk, Everett Falk, Gerald Falk, Charlie Bierly, and Robert Carey. "All of his grandsons" were designated honorary bearers. Memorials will please be addressed to the Linn-Benton Diabetes Association.4

McNeese, Sept. 30, 1914, in Albany. He was a farmer and had been a resident of the Halsey area for the past 55 years. Mr. Falk is survived by his widow and one son, Rawley, both of Halsey; two brothers, Charles, Halsey and Adolph, Brownsville; one sister, Rosa Bierly, Brownsville, and three grandchildren. Services will be Wednesday, 1:30 p.m. in the Halsey Christian Church, with the Rev. Gary Shoemaker officiating. Burial will be at the Alford cemetery, Harrisburg. Murphy Funeral Home of Junction City is in charge of arrangements.5

Rosa Delia Bierly, who lived most of her 84 years in the Halsey/Brownsville community, passed away this Tuesday evening (May 26) at McKenzie-Willamette Memorial Hospital in Springfield. Final rites will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sautrday [sic], in the Brownsville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roger Tetamore officiating. Margaret (Mrs. Robert) Carey will sing In the Garden, and When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder I'll Be There. The organist will be Donna (Mrs. Dwight) Cowdrey. Bearers will be Dale Drinkard, Everett Falk, Rawley Falk, Omar Falk, Howard Falk and Louis Falk. Fisher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests that friends who so-desire may contribute memorials in her name to the charity of their choice. Mrs.Bierly was born Sept. 1, 1896, in Wesley, Iowa; and came to Oregon with her family when she was five years of age. Except for a year at Hermiston, she lived in Central Linn until moving to a nursing home. She had lived in the Grandview Manor nursing home at Junction City since November, 1979. A homemaker, she also engaged in the chicken business for about 40 years. Mrs. Bierly was a former member of the Halsey Christian Church and of Charity Grange. She is survived by two sons; Charlie Bierly of Halsey route and Kenneth of Harrisburg route; two brothers: Adolph Falk of Dallas and Charley Falk of Halsey; Five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.9
She was buried at Alford Cemetery, between Halsey and Harrisburg, Linn County, Oregon.10,11 The inscription on her grave marker reads: MOTHER. ROSA D BIERLY. 1896 - 1981.12,11

     Heinrich Adolph Falk was born on 19 February 1884 in Pulaski Township, Iowa County, Wisconsin.2 He was the son of Charles Ludwig Falk and Odelia Salvienia Rike.1 Heinrich Adolph Falk was baptized on 21 February 1884 in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Muscoda, Grant County, Wisconsin.2
     Heinrich died after 21 February 1884 in Pulaski Township, Iowa County, Wisconsin. One of twins, he apparently died as an infant.2

     Ruth Lorean Falk was born on 22 June 1914 in Salem, Marion County, Oregon.1 She was the daughter of Conrad Falk and Nellie May Smith.
     On 3 February 1920 she appeared on the 1920 U.S. census taken at Hanson Road in Salem Heights Precinct, Marion County, Oregon, in the household of her parents Conrad and Nellie May Falk. The listing showed her as Ruth Falk, age 5, attended school, born in Oregon.2
     At South Commerical Street in Salem Heights, Marion County, Oregon, she appeared on the 1930 U.S. census taken on 7 April 1930 in the household of her parents Conrad and Nellie May Falk. She was enumerated as Ruth L. Falk, age 17, born in Oregon,and had attended school during the previous year.3
     She appeared in a directory between 1940 and 1941 at 100 Iowa Ave in Salem, Marion County, Oregon, in the household of her parents Conrad and Nellie May Falk. Her occupation was shown as stenographer for Reid Murdoch & Co.4
     She appeared on the 1940 U.S. census taken on 3 April 1940 at U. S. 99 E in Salem Heights, Marion County, Oregon, in the household of her parents Conrad and Nellie May Falk. Her listing showed Ruth Falk, stenographer for a wholesale cannery, age 25, born in Oregon and had completed 4 years of high school. She had lived at the same house in 1935.5
     She married James David Moore in Salem, Marion County, Oregon, on 26 November 1946.1 Ruth became a widow at her husband's death on 5 February 1995.1
     Ruth died on 9 February 2003 in Olympia, Thurston County, Washington, at age 88.1,6
     An obituary for Ruth Lorean Moore was published in The Olympian, Olympia, Washington on 12 February 2003. It read:
Ruth L. Moore, 88, passed away February 9th at Roo-Lan in Lacey. She was born June 22, 1914 in Salem, Oregon to Conrad and Nellie M. Falk. She graduated from Salem High School, and worked in the canning industry there. In 1946 she married James D. Moore of Little River, Kansas. After completing college he joined Shell Oil Company, and the couple lived in a number of places, including Olympia for 3 years in the mid-1950s. They returned to Olympia in 1973, joining a number of other Shell retirees and friends in the Northwest. Ruth enjoyed gardening, collecting, and the other activities of daily life. She is survived by niece, Marjorie Pulliam, of Simi Valley, California; grand-nephew, Philip D. Pulliam, of Texas; grand-nieces, Merl Berggren and Teri Kay Bartlow, of Pleasanton, California; nephew, Richard Stewart, of Olympia; and grand-nephews, James Stewart, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Richard Michael Stewart, of Miami, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in 1995. A service will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.6

     She appeared on the 1910 U.S. census taken on 29 April 1910 in Liberty Precinct, Marion County, Oregon, in the household of her parents Albert and Amelia Falk. She was Emma Falk, age 4, born in Iowa.2
     On 12 January 1920 she appeared on the 1920 U.S. census taken in Monitor Precinct, Marion County, Oregon, in the household of her parents Albert and Amelia Falk. She was shown as Emma Falk, age 14, born in Iowa.4
     In Olympia, Thurston County, Washington, Emma appeared as a lodger in the household of Hattie Adams on the 1930 U.S. census taken on 11 April 1930. This was a boarding house and she was shown as Emma Faulk, age 24, born in Iowa, working as a server at the knitting mills.5
     She married George Mackey after 1945.6
     Emma died on 16 April 1973 in Beaverton, Washington County, Oregon, at age 67.1,7

They made their home in Oklahoma City for one year, then moved to Fort Lewis, Wash., then to Fort Stevens, where Dr. Rafferty was stationed during World War II. She worked as a Gray Lady during the war. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Astoria Golf and Country Club, Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and Women's Medical Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, at home in Astoria, two daughters, Sharon Hall, Syracuse, N.Y. and Susan Taylor, Portland, and five grandchildren. Service is 1:30 p.m. Wednesday from Hughes-Ransom Memorial Chapel, Astoria. Remembrances may be to the American Cancer Society.1

Rafferty was mentioned in a newspaper article printed on 4 July 1935 in the Brownsville Times, Brownsville, Oregon about Henry John Falk.3 Another source gives the date and place of their marriage as 4 February 1936, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon.4

He was 83. Dr. Rafferty was born March 28, 1907, in Spokane, Wash., and moved iwth his family to Whitehall, Mont., when he was an infant. He attended school in Whitehall and moved to Oregon to join his mother, Ada Rowland, in the late 1920s. He attended the University of Oregon and the U of O Medical School, graduating in 1932. He completed his residency in Oklahoma and established a medical practice in Astoria in 1936. Dr. Rafferty was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Medical Reserve and was stationed at Camp Powers in Powers, Ore. He married Helen Falk in February, 1934. She died earlier. In 1941 he was recalled to service as a captain in the medical corps and served at Fort Stevens. He practiced in Astoria for 41 years and was in partnership for many years with Dr. Adolph Kerbel and Dr. Robert Neikes, and practiced with the Astoria Clinic before his retirement. Dr. Rafferty was a charter member of the Astoria Golf and Country Club. He had lived in Seaside and Portland before moving to Arcata to be near his daughter and son-in-law. Surviving are two daughters and their families, Susan and Bruce Taylor, Arcata, and Sharon and Vernon Hall, Syracuse, N.Y; and five grandchildren, Bruce, Leslie and John Taylor and Michael and Susan Hall. Funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Hughes-Ransom Mortuary, Astoria, followed by a reception. Interment will be private. Memorial contribuitons may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 1311 N.W. 21st Ave., Portland, Ore. 97201.1

Frank Fay Ward was born January 2, 1895 at Wesley Iowa at the farm home of his parents Arthur and Elisabeth Falk Ward. He was the first-born of six children. He was educated in the Doane, Wesley Township grammar school located on the Ward farm. As a young man he attended University Park College at Oskaloosa, Iowa. During World War I he served in Armed Forces overseas in the machine gun batallion. He was united in marriage to Ella Ridder by Reverend J. M Howdeshell on September 11, 1919 at her parents home in Klemme. The young couple met in the Howdeshell home. Three children were born to this union: Chester, Elsie and a baby boy who died in infancy. The children were reared in the First Methodist Church. Frank lived a consistent Christian life. They farmed for eight years and then moved to Klemme to make their home. Frank enjoyed the out-of-doors and many outdoor occupations. He served the town as marshall for a number of years and as sexton of the Goodell Cemetery for seven years. He passed away suddenly at his home on September 20, 1961. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Ella, his son Chester and wife, Sonja of Crete, Illinois, his daughter, Elsie and husband, Mr. Dwight Johnson of Concord, California, two grandsons; Bruce and Clarke Jonston, one granddaughter; Laura Ann Johnston, two brothers; Walter Ward of Rutland, Iowa and John Ward of Elliott, Iowa, two sisters; Ellen Reed of Elmore, Minnesota and Nellie Heggen of Webster City, Iowa, his mother-in-law, Mrs. Ida Ridder, of Leland Iowa and many more relatives and friends.6
