     An obituary for Harry Hitchings was published in The Pittsburg Headlight, Pittsburg, Kansas on 1 June 1916. It read:
[LIND:]Fatally Stricken at Table. Harry Hitchings Died In a Restaurant Last Night. From Tuesday's Daily. Harry Hitchings, a deputy in the Pioneer Protective Society and a well known worker in lodge circles in Pittsburg was fatally stricken while eating his supper at the O C. Blacker restaurant, 127 east Fourth Street about 7 o'clock last night. Except from the melancholy from which he was suffering from the death of his wife which occurred one month ago, he seemed to be in his usual health yesterday. Dr. U. A. D. Collelmo, who was summoned to the restaurant when he was stricken pronounced heart disease the cause of his death. He had been in company with A. L. Billington the greater part of the afternoon and two men came into the restaurant for supper at 7 o'clock, according to the story as it was told by O. C. Blacker, proprietor. "They sat down at one of the tables," he said, "and the men commenced to eat their supper. Suddenly Mr. Hitchings gaped slightly and fell limply down on the table. We carried him to a sofa in the back part of the room but he never spoke and died in a few minutes." The body was taken to the Bowman establishment. The funeral will be held from the chapel Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Sam I. Smith will conduct the ceremony. The Odd Fellows lodge, of which Mr. Hitchings was a member will have charge of the funeral. Burial will be made in Highland Park cemetery. Mr. Hitchings has been a resident of Pittsburg five years. He was 52 years old and was born in Brooklyn, N. Y. He came west about fifteen years ago and first settled in Kansas City. Later he moved to Decatur, Arlk, where he married the second time. He is survived by one daughter by his first wife. The daughter lives in California but her exact adddress is not known. Rrelatives living here in Pittsburg are two stepsons, J. J. and W. B. Kearnes, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Wiley Gus. Mr. Hitchings was a member of the Episcopal church. He was financial secretary for the A. H. T. A. and was affiliated with the Woodmen of the World, in addition to the I.O.O.F. and Pioneer Home Protective society.2

     An obituary for Doris Keen was published in Doris E. Keen, April 4, 1918 - March 20, 2005. Doris Ellen Keen, 86, of Halsey, died Sunday night at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital. The only child of Sam and Alice Ellen (Seefeld) Jones. Doris was raised in both Iowa and Halsey, where she graduated from high school in 1938. She then attended University of Oregon before marrying Willard B. Keen March 8, 1941 in Vancouver, Washington. The couple settled in Halsey in the home that Willard built where they lived together for 64 years. Doris was a frugal and efficient homemaker and an enthusiastic gardener. She was a great cook and she and Willard were very hospitable, hosting numerous foreign students from OSU over the years. Doris also had a love for learning new things and was both curious and unafraid to ask questions. Doris was a bible scholar and taught Sunday school for many years. She loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing her faith. She also desired for her family to learn how to be proper and efficient and spent a great deal of love and energy instructing them and others in the economy of life and many other things. Doris attended church in both Halsey and Brownsville and loved fellowshipping and spending time with her friends and family. In 1995, Doris and Willard mourned the loss of their only son in a tragic car accident. She loved her family very much and will be dearly missed. Doris is survived by her husband, Willard Keen, daughter-in-law, Patricia Keen, both of Halsey; grandchildren Timothy Keen of Portland; Scott and his wife Amy Keen of Albany; Kristina Keen of Halsey; and great-grandchildren Maxwell, Meredith, Paige, and Jillian Keen, all of Albany. She has been reunited with her son, Gary Keen, who preceded her in death. Viewing will be hold from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm Thursday, March 24th at AAsum Funeral Home in Albany. A graveside committal service will take place Friday the 25th at 09:30 am at Willamette Memorial Park, with a memorial service following at First Baptist Church of Brownsville at 27910 Seven Mile Lane, Brownsville, OR 97327. Memorial contributions are suggested to the church and to East Linn Christian Academy, either directly or in care of AAsum Funeral Home, Inc., Brownsville, Oregon on 23 March 2005.1 She was buried on 25 March 2005 in Willamette Memorial Park, Albany, Linn County, Oregon.1
