He was listed as Marvin Dawson, age 10, born in Oregon, and had completed the 3rd grade.3 Marvin was listed in a directory for Eugene-Springfield, Lane County, Oregon, in 1958.      Marvin died on 4 April 2002 at home in Reno, Washoe County, Nevada, at age 72.5

He was listed as the owner of 160 acres: 130 tilled and 30 other. The value shown for his farmland, fences and buildings was $2000; for implements and machinery $125; and for livestock $335. The wages paid for farm labor was $8 for 1 week and the value of farm production was $531. The animals listed included 3 horses and 7 swine.      On 8 June 1880 in Viola, Mercer County, Illinois, she appeared on the 1880 U.S. census in the household of her parents Wells and Sarah Jane Chase. She was shown as Nellie G. Chase, at school, age 8, born in Illinois.4
     She married William S. Smalley, son of John Wilson Smalley and Rachel Ann Hemphill, in Tobias, Saline County, Nebraska, on 1 March 1887. Witnesses at their marriage were Myron Curtis Morey and Mary V. Morey.5
     Nellie died on 16 March 1965 at Brodstone Hospital in Superior, Nuckolls County, Nebraska, at age 92. The cause of death was myocardial inferation due to advanced arteriosclerosis.1,3 She was buried on 19 March 1965 in Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, Nuckolls County, Nebraska.6 The inscription on her grave marker reads: SMALLEY. MOTHER. NELLIE G. 1872 - 1965. This is a double stone with her husband.3
     An obituary for Nellie Grace Chase was published in The Superior Express, Superior, Nebraska on 25 March 1965. It read:
Nellie Chase Smalley was born to Mr. and Mrs. Wells Chase on May 5, 1872, in Henry County, Illinois, and died at Brodstone Hospital in Superior, Neb., on March 16, 1965, at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 11 years of age. When she was one year old, her parents moved to Viola, Ill., and in August, 1884, the family moved to Atlanta Center Precinct, Saline County, Nebraska. On March 1, 1888, she was married to William S. Smalley, who preceded her in death in 1944. To this union were born Clyde Smalley of Hebron, Neb., Lee Smalley who preceded her in death in 1935; Floyd Smalley who preceded her in death in 1958; Fern Smalley Kramer of Superior, Neb; Ray Smalley of Medford, Ore; and Maie Smalley Bramwell of Los Gatos, Calif. Immediately after their marriage, Mrs. Smalley and her husband left for Sherman County, Kansas, where they lived on their homestead. In 1890 they returned to Saline County where they lived for 13 years. They moved to Nuckolls County in 1904 to a farm southeast of Mt. Clare where they lived until 1922 when they moved to Superior. A brother Frank Chase preceded her in death as a young man. Survivors are, besides her children already named, two sisters: Mamie Plambeck and Mina Moffatt, both of the Good Samaritan Home of Nelson, Neb; 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was united with the First Baptist Church of Superior in 1923. She was a very faithful member and a wonderul mother and friend. She will always be remembered for her bright smile and sunny disposition. Services were held at the Megrue Funeral Home Friday afternoon, with Pastor J.F. Kunce officiating. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery.7

DIsposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society.3

Mr. Elliott had worked for the Brownsville Woolen Mills, local sawmills, Carlson Hardware and the Champion International Mill. He retired in 1977. He belonged to the Brownsville fire Department and was a member of Plywood & Veneer Workers Local No. 2554. Surviving are sons Gary of Bend, Ron of Coos Bay, and Ken of Albany and nine grandchldren and four ggrandchildren. A brother Earl, died before him. Viewing will be untill 8 pm. today at Fisher Funeral Home, Albany. Mr. Elliott's funeral will be at 11:45 p.m. [sic] Tuesday at the Brownsville Assembly of God Church with Pastor Lloyd Oliver officeating. [sic] Burial will be at the Brownsville Pioneer Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Brownsville Meals on Wheels.1
